Beach

Captains Beach (NSW 434) takes its name from HMAS Creswell which is situated on the grassy slopes that back Captains Point at the northern end of the beach. The beach curves gently for 2.1 km to the southeast to finally face north in its eastern corner at Green Patch, in lee of Bristol Point. It is backed by a continuous 50-100 m wide densely vegetated foredune, with a 1 km elongate lagoon behind the northern half, which breaks out across the northern corner of the beach, while the upland Telegraph Creek descends to drain across the southern corner. The beach is composed of pure white quartz sand and usually has a steep, reflective cusped beach face, with seagrass meadows 50 m offshore (Fig. 4.336). The southern half of the beach lies in the national park with vehicle access to the Green Patch camping area and Iluka picnic area.

Swimming

Apart from the relatively deep water close inshore these beaches are usually relatively quite. At Green Patch a floating net gives bathers additional security, while at Murrays Beach beware of tidal currents in the channel off the beach.

Surfing

None.

Fishing

The rocky shores are the more popular spots, with boat launching from the Murrays beach ramp.
