Beach

Mindil Beach (NT 137) is Darwin’s most famous and popular beach, site of the casino and the Thursday night markets, and backed by the large Mindil beach reserve. The 500 m long beach faces west and is bordered by 15 m high Myilly and Bullocky points. It consists of a moderately steep 100 m wide high tide beach, fronted by 200 m wide low tide sand flats (Fig. 5.22). It is the site of the Mindil Beach Surf Life Saving Club which patrols the beach on Sunday afternoons during winter, at the time of the famous Mindil Markets..
