Beach
Beach NT 1406 commences at the rock outcrops and trends southwest for 3.6 km to the small mouth of Almarlangij Creek. Apart from two small rock outcrops in the north the beach is an exposed low gradient ultradissipative system. During stronger winds waves up to 1-1.5 m maintain a 100 m wide surf. In the north it is backed by an older area of vegetated transgressive dunes that have blown 2 km inland and to heights of 18 m, while the southern half of the beach is backed by a 300 m wide foredune-blowout system and the 100 ha salt flats of Malgaryungu Lagoon. These in turn are backed by a 200-400 m wide inner (possibly Pleistocene) barrier, which blocks the 100 ha freshwater Amunngale Swamp. The entire barrier-wetland system totals about 600 ha and Almarlangij Creek drains the entire system.
