Beach

Mackay Harbour has been constructed by building two 800 m long breakwaters out from the beach, enclosing nearly 1 km2 of protected harbour. Tucked in at either end of the harbour are two pockets of sand; the northern (1116) is a 100 m long, steep beach wedged up against the northern breakwater. An access track runs to the low dunes backing the beach, with North Harbour Beach also being accessible from this track.

While these beaches are both calm, only the northern beach is suitable for swimming.
