The main beach section (45) extends north of the foreland to the prominent reefs immediately south of Number Two Rocks. This 6.6 km long section faces southwest and apart from some waves breaking on scattered reefs receives persistent high southwest swell. The waves maintains an energetic two bar system, with the inner bar cut by strong rips every 500 m, in addition to permanent rips adjacent to some of the reefs, with rip currents extending over 200 m out to sea, and the entire surf zone up to 400 m wide. It is backed by very unstable sand dune that extends up to 1 km inland and consists of six large blowout/parabolics in the south grading into a 2 km long section of transverse dunes (Fig. 4.5). A 4WD track winds along in the deflation basin between the foredune and transgressive dunes.
