Beach

Adams Beach (T 1227) commences at the river mouth in lee of the wide sand flats and trends to the northeast, then east for 2.2 km to the small Granite Point. It is backed by a 100-150 m wide series of low foredunes and a drained 1 km wide wetland, all part of a series of spits that extend west towards the river. The first 1 km of beach lies in lee of the sand flats, with low waves at the shore. The sand flats narrow to a low tide terrace along the eastern kilometre, with waves averaging 0.5-1 m reaching the shore and forming rips at low tide closer to Granite Point. The entire beach and backing low vegetated foredunes are part of Granite Point Conservation Area, with farmland on the drained wetland behind. The eastern end of the beach is located 100 m west of the Granite Point car park, which overlooks the beach.
