Beach

The Bemm River flows into Sydenham Inlet via a winding delta. The small town of Bemm River is located on the northern side of the inlet, with the mouth located approximately 4 km by boat from the town. The inlet is advertised as the 'bream capital of the world' and is extremely popular in-season. A gravel road also runs out to the coast, joining the beach midway along; where it becomes a 4WD track and runs behind the beach to Pearl Point. There are three parking and beach access points off the track.

The beach runs dead straight east-west for 11 km from the inlet to the rocks east of Pearl Point. It is exposed to all southerly waves which average 1.5 m. It is backed by dunes which narrow to the west; and is fronted by a 200 m wide surf zone with an attached inner bar, which is cut by rips every 300 m; then a long deep trough and the outer bar.

Swimming

This beach is dominated by the inner bar rips and longshore trough, both of which contain strong currents; so bathe only when conditions are calm or if you are very experienced.

Surfing

One of the few beaches accessible by car and hence a moderately popular beach, with numerous beach breaks to choose from. The outer bar works best in low to moderate swell with northerly winds.

Fishing

A popular fishing area with river, lagoon, inlet and beach fishing available. The beach usually has good rip holes as well as the longshore trough beyond the inner bar. The inlet mouth is best accessed by boat.

General

Both the Inlet and beach are adjacent to the popular holiday and fishing town of Bemm River. There is good car access to the beach which is popular for fishing, surfing, bathing and walking. However it is a hazardous beach so take care when waves are breaking.
