A 100 m long strip of sand is located at the base of the cove, which narrows to about 50 m off the beach (WA 522) with waves breaking across the entrance. A small permanent rip drains out the centre. The sandy high tide beach is fronted by intertidal rocks and boulders, then low surf. Point Nuyts lies 2 km southwest of the cove. To the west of Point Nuyts is 14 km of exposed southwest-facing shore centred on Hush Hush and Mandalay beaches, with Long Point separating the two systems. The first system between Point Nuyts and Long Point consists of a 6 km wide open embayment containing Hush Hush and two smaller beaches, with steep granite and calcarenite slopes dominating most of the shore.
