The Lagoon is a 3 km long open southwest-facing embayment, located to the lee of the 1.3 km wide shallow reef and reef flats. Two beaches (LH 9 & 10) occupy its eastern shore. South Lagoon beach (LH 9) extends for 840 m from the southern Cobbys Corner northwest to where the island runway protrudes onto the beach and 200 m along the shore, dividing the once continuous Lagoon Beach into two. This beach forms the lagoon side of the 550 m wide coastal sand plain that links with Blinky Beach and joins the two parts of the island. The beach is sheltered by the fringing reef and receives waves averaging less than 0.5 m, which lap up against the steep narrow beach face. A picnic area is located at the southern end, just off the Lagoon Road, and a track runs behind the beach up to the runway.
Beach Length: 0.84km
General Hazard Rating: 3/10
