Murrah Head forms the northern boundary of an open 2 km wide embayment, backed by two valleys and bordered to the south by the base of 2 km long Goalen Head. Murrah-Bunga beach (NSW 637) commences in the north in lee of the head at the usually open mouth of Murrah Lagoon and curves to the southern rocks for 2.2 km, usually blocking the smaller southern Bunga Lagoon. A foredune backs the section between the lagoons, with cleared slopes south of the Bunga entrance. The beach is backed by private farmland north of Bunga Lagoon with plans by national parks for public access to and camping at the southern Hidden Valley section of the beach. The beach receives waves averaging 1.5 m along the northern Murrah section, dropping slightly along the southern Bunga section. A bar usually runs the length of the beach cut by rips every 200-300 m, with a permanent rip against Murrah Head combining with the inlet entrance (Fig. 4.411), and a smaller rip against the southern rocks.
Beach Length: 2km
