Beach PH 4 is the only beach on the western side of the bay. It is located 1 km inside Burraneer Point, and consists of a 110 m long northeast-facing strip of sand located at the end of Lugano Street, and adjacent to the Offshore Rescue Base, which has a boat shed and jetty on the southern boundary rocks (Fig. 4.265). It has a 10 m wide high tide beach grading abruptly into 50 m wide sand flats, with oyster covered rocks to either end, and some rocks on the beach. It is backed by beachfront houses with a private jetty across the northern end.

Swimming

All the southern port beaches are usually exposed to calm to low wave conditions and relative quiet, apart from deeper water off Horderns Beach.

Surfing

Usually none, however when the swell is running there are a number of breaks on the tidal shoals out in the bay, which are ridden by the local surfers.

Fishing

All the port beaches, bays and rocky headlands are popular fishing spots.
