The northern shore of Moreton Island faces north-west and extends for 11 km between low, sandy Comboyuro Point and 20 m high, rocky North Point. While this is a lee shore and waves average less than 1 m, decreasing to the west, it is nonetheless a very dynamic shoreline, with the low, sandy Heath Island comprising two crenulate sand spits.
Kianga Channel beach (MOR13) parallels the smaller tidal channel for 2.5 km between Comboyuro Point and the beginning of Heath Island. The beach receives low swell averaging less than 0.5 m and usually has a steep, barless beach, with the deeper water of the channel close inshore. Low, densely vegetated dunes back the beach, while a small creek, with a small backing lagoon, occasionally flows across the centre of the beach.
Beach Length: 2.5km
