Moreton Island lies 15 km due east of Woorim, with the waters in between forming the wide, shoal dominated entrance to Moreton Bay. Moreton Island protects Bribie Island from most southerly swell, resulting in waves averaging 0.5 to 1 m along Woorim beach (1556). These usually produce a narrow high tide beach with a continuous attached bar exposed at low tide. Rip channels are usually absent at Woorim and only form during and following waves greater than 1 m. However southerly winds can produce a strong current running to the north.
