Between the eastern shore of Haughton River mouth and Hughes Creek, 35 km to the east, is a series of very low energy beaches, interspersed with mangrove-fringed shores and tidal creeks. There is no vehicle access to any of the beaches and all are backed by an extensive tidal plain.
Hughes Creek Beach (889) is a straight, north facing, 2.5 km long beach that forms the boundary between the low, sandy beach and the mud and mangrove dominated eastern bay shore. It lies between the western Hughes Creek and an unnamed eastern creek, and consists of a low, low energy beach, that is accessible at low tide by a 4WD track that runs out across the swampy coastal plain from Brandon, 20 km to the south.
