Between the eastern shore of Haughton River mouth and Hughes Creek, 35 km to the east, is a series of very low energy beaches, interspersed with mangrove-fringed shores and tidal creeks. There is no vehicle access to any of the beaches and all are backed by an extensive tidal plain.
Beach 885 is a low energy, 700 m long strip of sand set in lee of 2 km wide tidal flats. The low beach is, for the most part, fronted by a fringe of mangrove.
