To the north of Donovan Point is a 2 km wide, broad, V-shaped embayment, containing a 500 m long beach in the V. The entire beach and bay system is fronted by a near-continuous fringing coral reef, extending in places 1 km from the beach. The beach consists of a narrow high tide fringe of sand, fronted by intertidal sand flats up to 600 m wide, and then the fringing reef. Because of the reef, waves are usually very low and mangroves are scattered along the central part of the beach. The beach lies just off the Cooktown Road, with easy vehicle access to the back of the beach.
