Collins Hill rises to 270 m immediately south of the Bloomfield River mouth. Beginning on the south side of the river mouth and running along the base of the steep slopes is an irregular, thin ribbon of sand that extends for about 1.5 km. The narrow high tide beach is fronted by up to 1 km wide river and tidal shoals, with occasional mangroves growing along the beach. There is a small tourist resort at the southern end, that has an access jetty, but no vehicle access.
