Opposite Cairns is the Murray Prior Range, that rises to over 500 m. On the Cairns side of the range are a series of low energy beaches and tidal flats, while the Yarrabah Aboriginal Community and several more beaches lie to the east. The first five beaches occupy the 6 km of steep shore between the mangroves of Cairns Harbour and False Cape. They all face north-west and are well protected from most waves by their orientation and extensive tidal flats. The first four beaches between Bessie Point and Koombal are serviced by the Yarrabah Road, and coincide with the small foreshore settlements of Giangurra, Lyons Point and Koombal. Giangurra (725) has an 800 m long high tide beach fronted by 1 km of tidal flats. Either side of Lyons Point and in front of Koombal are three near-continuous, but irregular, beaches (726, 727, 728), each about 500 m long, and fronted by 500 m wide tidal flats. Finally at Sunny Bay, in lee of False Cape, is a 200 m long, steep, sandy beach with large boulders and fronted by a narrow bar/tidal flat. It has no road access.
Beach Length: 0.5km
