Machans Beach is located immediately north of the main Barron River mouth and is part of the Barron River delta. Consequently, while it is a relatively low energy beach with waves averaging less than 0.5 m, it has a very dynamic shoreline owing to changes in the river mouth. The beach is 2.5 km long, with a road and beachfront houses backing most of the beach. In order to protect the houses from shoreline changes, the beach has largely been replaced or backed with a rock seawall. The northern end of the beach has a relatively narrow bar, which toward the southern end is replaced by tidal flats up to 1 km wide. The beach is occasionally breached by Redden Creek, with the southern half called Redden Island and the beach South Machan Beach. However the creek may close for years at a time, forming one continuous beach.
Beach Length: 2.5km
