Alexandria Bay is an open bay lying between the northern Table Mountain and the southern Bale Hill. A 3 km long beach fronts a 2 km wide swamp that partially fills the bay. The beach faces east and is bordered by Cooper Creek in the north and McKenzie Creek to the south. The creeks and backing swamp prohibit vehicle access, with boat being the best form of access. The beach receives moderate waves and usually has a narrow high tide beach fronted by a 200 m wide shallow bar, across which the waves break at low tide. The beach has been experiencing some erosion, which is undercutting and exposing the tall melaleuca trees that back the beach. The beach also widens toward each of the inlets. read more
