Moon River is a tidal creek that drains the Half Moon Creek Wetland Reserve, that extends for 2.5 km south of the river mouth. The beach has been built across the creek mouth between Earl Hill to the north and 70 m high Yorkeys Knob to the south. A harbour-marina was constructed in 1990's immediately south of the river mouth, and its two harbour walls have substantially stabilised the creek. The marina is backed by a resort and golf course, while there is a canal estate off the creek, behind the main part of the beach. Moon River Beach (717), now truncated by the marina, is 800 m long, faces north-east and receives waves less than 0.5 m high. To the north they form a steep beach and narrow bar; however at the creek mouth, tidal shoals extend up to 300 m off the beach. There is vehicle access to the marina and a large car park, however the main beach has a road to the canal estate, then a walking track to the beach. read more
