Cape Sandwich was sighted and named by Captain Cook in June 1770. The cape consists of a craggy, 200 m high headland that protrudes east and forms the boundary between Shepherd Bay and the larger Ramsay Bay to the south. There is no access to the cape other than by boat or on foot. On the tip of the cape are two indentations, containing two pocket beaches. Beach 808 is a small wedge of sand in a V-shaped indentation immediately below the tip of the cape. At high tide it is awash and consists of a boulder-covered high tide beach. At low tide, the beach lengthens to 100 m and exposes a low tide bar up to 80 m wide. Waves average 0.5 m, increasing in height during strong Trades. At these times a rip is generated against the northern rocks.
Beach Length: 0.1km
General Hazard Rating: 3/10
