On the south side of the Annan River mouth is a 600 m long beach and spit that is tied to the northern slopes of Mount McIntosh. There is no road access to the beach which is best reached by boat down the river. The beach itself is relatively straight with a narrow curved spit at the northern tip, a low rocky outcrop at the southern end, and tidal sand shoals extending up to 1 km off the beach, which are exposed to varying degrees at low tide. The deep river channel lies immediately off the northern tip. The beach is backed by 300 m wide, low, open dunes and the mangrove-fringed Esk River, with joins the Annan at the mouth.
