Indian Head is a solitary, 50 m high, grass and scrub-covered basalt headland surrounded by bare sand dunes. The head forms the southern boundary of a 2.2 km long, east to north-east facing beach that ends at the northern Middle Rocks. The head protrudes far enough seaward to afford some protection to the southern corner, lowering the waves and causing it to curve around. The protected southern end is a popular 4WD destination for fishers, surfers and campers. The beach (FR7) has a moderate gradient and a continuous inner bar usually cut by several rips, which increase in intensity toward Middle Rocks. A low foredune and bare sand dunes extend up to 1 km behind the beach, backed in turn by the vegetated parabolics of the island.
Beach Length: 2.2km
General Hazard Rating: 7/10
