Coongul Creek beach (FR14) is a relatively dynamic, 5 km long beach that is controlled both by the low waves of Hervey Bay and the location of the creek mouth. The predominantly northerly waves deflect the mouth up to 5 km to the south. Occasionally the mouth re-enters to the north and the southward migration begins again. As a consequence, the steep, narrow beach is backed by a narrow, generally bare to sparsely vegetated sand spit, then the creek and backing mangroves.

Swimming

These are five generally low energy beaches, only active during strong south-west to northerly winds. Best conditions are toward high tide and clear of the creek mouths.

Surfing

None.

Fishing

Best at high tide and in the creek mouths.

General

A 60 km long, little used section of the island, with no facilities and usually difficult vehicle access along the beaches, owing to the many creeks and narrow beaches.
