Beach 1457 runs from the south side of the Clews Point rocks for 2 km in a curving, north-east facing spiral to the north side of Bustard Head. The beach is composed of fine sand and receives waves between 0.5 and 1 m, which maintain a 30 m wide high tide beach fronted by a 100 m wide low tide bar. Along the more exposed northern half, the low tide bar is fronted by an outer bar that is usually cut by low tide rips every 150 m, with a resulting eight to ten rips along the beach. Both beaches are backed by a largely stable foredune, with some past sand blows extending up onto the backing 40 m high bedrock ridge behind the northern end.
Beach Length: 2km
General Hazard Rating: 3/10
