Connor Bluff is a 40 m high, rocky bluff at the southern end of a 6 km long cliffline that extends from Black Head. Beyond the bluff are two beaches totalling 5 km in length, terminating at Southend, the south-eastern point of the island. There is a small settlement at Southend and 4WD trails leading from Southend up behind the beaches to Connor Bluff and on to Black Head. Connor Bluff beach (1426) is 3.5 km long and runs in a slightly curving southerly direction to the reef flats of Southend. The beach is exposed to waves averaging 0.5 to 1 m and these combine with the coarse sand and gravel of the beach to maintain a steep high tide beach, fronted by a 50 m wide low tide bar, with rips commonly forming along the northern half of the beach. The beach is backed by a grassy foredune and 100 to 400 m of now cleared sand blowouts and parabolic dunes, that average between 15 to 20 m high and have been somewhat degraded by the cattle grazing. A small creek is usually impounded behind the middle of the beach, but periodically breaks out across the beach.
Beach Length: 3.5km
General Hazard Rating: 3/10
