Connor Bluff is a 40 m high, rocky bluff at the southern end of a 6 km long cliffline that extends from Black Head. Beyond the bluff are two beaches totalling 5 km in length, terminating at Southend, the south-eastern point of the island. There is a small settlement at Southend and 4WD trails leading from Southend up behind the beaches to Connor Bluff and on to Black Head. Southend beach (1427) is 1.5 km long and curves around to face north-east. The entire length of the beach is fronted and dominated by rock flats, resulting in a narrow, crenulate high tide strip of sand, with fronting 50 to 100 m wide rock flats. The beach narrows to the south, eventually being almost completely replaced by the rock flats. The Southend settlement backs the southern 800 m of the beach and contains a store and some tourist accommodation. The ferry service from Gladstone lands at a jetty just inside North Entrance.
