The first of the island's beaches is a 3.2km long northern section (1434), which faces north-east and ends as a narrow spit on the southern side of the creek mouth, just opposite Tannum Sands Beach. It is composed of medium sand and has a relatively steep high tide beach fronted by a continuous, 150m wide bar, with wide tidal shoals off the creek mouth. Waves average 0.5m and spill across the bar at low tide, while they surge up the beach face at high tide.
