Ethel Rocks is a rock reef lying 400 m north of Richards Point. The shoreline for 5 km to the east is dominated by three low, rocky points, with four sandy beaches in between. Interestingly, the sand along the three more embayed beaches tends to be finer at their eastern ends and coarser toward their western ends, representing some wave grading of the beach sand, possibly combined with headland bypassing of dune sand. There is 4WD access to the rear of these beaches and some cleared land and station buildings in lee of beach 1447. Beach 1447 is the longest of the four beaches, at 2 km in length. It faces initially north-east in lee of Richards Point, then curves around to face north against the eastern point. The beach has a 20 to 30 m wide high tide beach, which is interrupted by rocks against Richards Point, and has a layer of black sand. Once free of the point, it is a continuous beach fronted by a low tide bar that widens from 50 m in the west to 150 m in the east. Waves average 0.5 m, occasionally with higher waves producing a few low tide rips toward the centre and western end. A 5 to 10 m high, grassy foredune backs the beach, then the cleared Richards Point and some cleared land behind the beach.
