Pancake Point forms the western point of the 1 km wide Pancake Creek tidal inlet. Extending north-west of the point is a 7 km long sandy beach, which ends amongst the rocks that form the shore, 1.5 km north of Table Hill. The beach (1451) consists of essentially two parts. The western section is bordered by the low, rocky point, with rocks off the low tide bar. It then runs for 2.5 km to a small creek that drains across the beach, with rock reefs off much of the low tide beach, as well as a few rocks along the beach. Beyond the creek, rocks are absent all the way to Pancake Point and, as well as the sandy beach and low tide bar, the beach is backed by up to 3.5 km of low, wooded beach and foredune ridges. The approximately twenty ridges represent former shorelines and are evidence of a substantial amount of sediment accumulation. Most of the beach has a moderate gradient high tide beach fronted by a 100 m wide low tide bar, with rips more common toward the western half of the beach. Waves average over 0.5 m in the west, decreasing toward the point, where tidal shoals extend over 1 km north of the inlet.
