West Head Island is a cone shaped, 4 km2 island peaking at 282 m high West Hill. The entire island is part of West Hill National Park and is covered in densely vegetated slopes that include rain forest, eucalypt and melaleuca forests. While the hill is an island at high tide, it can be reached at low tide across 300 m wide tidal flats. Most of the 6 km of island shore is rocky, with three narrow beaches located on the more protected northern and north-east shores. Beach 1193 lies on the north-west tip of the island. It is backed by steeply rising slopes that decrease in height to the west where they end at a small sand spit. The beach is fronted by 500 m wide tidal flats that narrow to the east, while 50 m wide rock flats begin to run along the back of the beach.
Beach Length: 1.5km
General Hazard Rating: 1/10
