Perpetua Point forms the northern entrance to the large, shallow Sarina Inlet, that has predominantly mangrove-fringed shores extending up to 10 km inland, where the sizeable Plane Creek flows into the system at Sarina. The inlet entrance is 2 km across, with a 50 m high peninsula ending at Freshwater Point forming the southern entrance. A 500 m long causeway across tidal flats links the peninsula with Armstrong beach. Between Perpetua and Freshwater Points are two low energy beaches in the inlet, three small, exposed sandy beaches, and the low energy Deception Inlet in Llewellyn Bay, located on the southern side of Freshwater Point. Point Salisbury lies 1 km west of Perpetua Point, with a 900 m long, curving, south-east facing, low energy beach (1142) in between. The Sarina beach Road skirts the top end of the beach and there is a 4WD track to some shacks out on the southern end of the beach below Point Salisbury, but otherwise the beach is undeveloped. The beach is protected from direct wave attack by Freshwater Point, which extends 4 km to the east, and the entrance tidal shoals of Sarina Inlet. It consists of a narrow, moderately steep high tide beach fronted by 300 to 400 m wide intertidal sand flats and the deep tidal channel of the inlet (Fig. 2.16a).
