Between Shoal Point and Eimeo headland is an open, 4 km wide, east-north-east facing bay that contains three beaches - one at Shoal Point, the long Bucasia beach and the tidal Sunset Bay. Bucasia is one of Mackay’s northern beaches and is a popular residential, holiday and traveller destination. Directly opposite the southern end of Bucasia spit, 100 m away on the other side of Eimeo Creek mouth, is Sunset Bay beach (1106) - a crenulate, low energy, narrow high tide beach, fronted by the wide creek tidal flats, that ends amongst the rocks of Eimeo Point. The beach faces west into the sunset, hence the name. The road to Eimeo runs along the back of the beach, which is also backed by several houses, a boat ramp, park and playground, together with a seawall.
