At the rock-dominated southern end of the beach is a 300 m pocket of sand in amongst the colourful sandstone rocks at the base of 60 m high Mount Hector. This beach (1130) faces east-north-east and receives waves averaging 0.4 m that break across the rocks and 10 m wide low tide bar. The point and backing land are part of a nature reserve.
