Hay Point is a prominent headland, now dominated by a large coal loading facility and two long jetties extending north-east from the point. The point is serviced by the small settlement of Hay Point, that includes a beachfront hotel and caravan park, but no shops. The Hay Point Road runs right out to the point and provides good access to the beach.
On the southern side of the rocky point is 2.4 km long Salonika beach (1135). This longer sandy beach picks up waves averaging 0.5 m and has a small rip running out against the northern rocks. The beach itself is moderately steep and 50 m wide at high tide, with a 100 m wide low tide bar that increases to 150 m in width at the southern Breens Creek mouth. The beach is backed by a series of foredunes that were cleared and developed for housing in the mid 1990's. There is good access for the length of the beach from backing residential roads.
Beach Length: 2.4km
