Bakers Creek is a 1 km wide tidal creek that essentially forms the southern boundary of Mackay. Dense mangroves fringe the creek shores and 2 to 3 km of tidal flats extend offshore from the mouth. On the south side of the creek mouth is a 1.5 km long, low energy beach and tidal flat (1123). The beach consists of a narrow, high tide sandy ridge, backed by dense mangroves and fronted by tidal flats also containing scattered mangroves. There is a gravel road to the western tip of the beach where there is a creek-front shack development.
