At Covering beach the low, sandy and muddy coast of the Proserpine and O’Connell Rivers gives way to a gradually rising upland coast, with the Connors Hills paralleling the coast 2 to 5 km inland and rising to over 300 m. The shoreline faces north-east between the O’Connell River and Midgeton and is dominated by rocky shores, with low energy rock and tidal flats covered by varying degrees of mangroves. In amongst the rocks and mangroves is a near-continuous, irregular strip of high tide sand that comprises the ‘beaches’. Past Covering beach the shoreline continues on much the same toward Midgeton. Beach 1059 is 700 m long. It is backed by wooded grazing land with 4WD tracks running behind the shore. A new caravan park has been developed on the Midgeton Road toward the southern end of the beach. A more substantial, low, rocky protrusion separates these beaches from Beach 1060, which is a 3 km long, more easterly facing beach that becomes increasingly dominated by mangroves toward Midgeton.
