Midgeton is the only settlement on the western shores of Repulse Bay. There is nothing north (except the Laguna Quay Resort) until Conway beach, 20 km away, and nothing south until Seaforth, 27 km away. The lack of development of the bay reflects its remoteness from any major towns, the hilly interior (which diverts the highway up to 20 km inland), the dead-end and poor quality of many of the coastal access tracks and the low energy, shallow nature of the bay shore, that has precluded port development. Midgeton is a small holiday settlement with a store, caravan park and grassy foreshore reserve. At the northern end of the settlement is a low headland, on the eastern end of which is 700 m long beach 1061. The beach faces east and curves around between two low headlands. It has extensive rock flats off the headlands and 1.5 km wide sand flats off the beach, which at low tide link with a small, mangrove-fringed islet 300 m off the beach. There is vehicle access to the northern end of the beach from the Midgeton Road.
