Midgeton is the only settlement on the western shores of Repulse Bay. There is nothing north (except the Laguna Quay Resort) until Conway beach, 20 km away, and nothing south until Seaforth, 27 km away. The lack of development of the bay reflects its remoteness from any major towns, the hilly interior (which diverts the highway up to 20 km inland), the dead-end and poor quality of many of the coastal access tracks and the low energy, shallow nature of the bay shore, that has precluded port development. Midgeton Beach (1062) is a 1.8 km long, south-east facing, low gradient, sandy beach. It is backed by a foreshore reserve fringed with coconut trees, then the houses of the settlement. The beach is fronted by a wide, low gradient intertidal beach, with sand flats extending up to 1 km off the southern end in front of Yard Creek mouth, which forms the southern boundary. A smaller, mangrove-fringed creek forms the northern boundary
