Reef Point forms the northern tip of the Peninsula Range. It also forms the southern shoreline of Strong Tide Passage, a 1.5 km wide bedrock channel that separates it from Townsend Island. The point is named after rock reefs that lie just off the point and make negotiation of the passage just that much more difficult. The point itself consists of low, steeply dipping metamorphic rocks. The rocks are strewn about the point and the beaches to either side, as well as forming the passage reefs. Despite the rocky nature of the point, the shoreline consists of beaches to either side. To the west inside Strong Tide Passage are two low wave beaches, while to the south are two more exposed beaches. Beach 1300 faces north-west into Shoalwater Bay. It is 900 m long and consists of a narrow high tide beach and sand and rocky tidal flats that extend 200 to 300 m out to the edge of the deep water in the passage. A few mangroves are scattered along its eastern shore. There is an old ruin behind the western end and the beach is used as a campsite by fishers. A military track runs behind the beach.
