Stanage Point is a substantial 700 m wide headland beyond which the coast trends south-east for 23 km to Macdonald Point. In between are a series of sandy beaches which gradually decrease in wave energy, owing to the increasing protection of Shoalwater Bay. The first three beaches lie between Stanage Point and a 20 m high headland 2 km to the south. The headland and backing land have been cleared for grazing, and farm tracks of the Stanage Bay property lead to each of the beaches. Beach 1258 occupies the same small bay and is a 250 m long, east-north-east facing sand beach, backed by a low, vegetated foredune then cleared slopes, and fronted by a sloping, 80 m wide low tide bar. Cleared, rocky headlands protrude 300 m to either side with rocks and reefs rimming their shores.
Beach Length: 0.25km
General Hazard Rating: 2/10
