On the south side of Port Clinton, 170 m high Mount Flinders and its surrounding 15 km of rocky shore dominate the coast. To the west the shore faces into the estuarine waters of South Arm, to the north it faces Port Clinton Bay, while on the east it faces the Coral Sea. A total of twelve beaches surround the base of the mount, ranging in size from 50 m to over 1 km. All are dominated by and bounded by prominent headlands and rocks. Immediately to the north is beach 1331, a 300 m long, north-west facing beach bordered by the rocky headlands of Inner Head and 20 m high Bullock Point. The beach receives sufficient wave energy to maintain a 50 m wide low tide bar, rather than tidal flats.
