South of Cape Ferguson is 15 km of sandy shore, ending at the 1 km wide mouth of the Haughton River. The beaches all face east, turning slightly north-east toward the river. A 10 km long road from the highway at Clevedon runs out to the southern end of Big Beach and Cungulla, both of which have scores of shacks and holiday houses.
Salmon Creek Beach (880) is a 5 km long, east-south-east facing beach that is bordered by an unnamed northern creek and Salmon Creek to the south. Both Salmon Creek Beach and adjoining Big Beach are backed by up to 6 km of 60 low beach ridges, evidence of shoreline progradation over the past 6 000 years. The beach is composed of fine sand and consists of a 200 m wide, low gradient intertidal beach fronted by a low surf zone up to 100 m wide. A 5 m high foredune covered by spinifex, ipomoea and casuarina backs the beach.
