South of Cape Ferguson is 15 km of sandy shore, ending at the 1 km wide mouth of the Haughton River. The beaches all face east, turning slightly north-east toward the river. A 10 km long road from the highway at Clevedon runs out to the southern end of Big Beach and Cungulla, both of which have scores of shacks and holiday houses.
Big Beach (881) is the biggest of the four at 7.2 km long. It faces north-east and runs from Salmon Creek to the wide mouth of the Haughton River. There is a road out to the houses and shacks at the southern end. The beach is backed by a low, casuarina-covered foredune and fronted by a wide, intertidal beach and 100 m wide surf zone, indicative of the overall low gradients.
Beach Length: 7.2km
