The north-east corner of Magnetic Island consists of granite hills rising nearly 200 m and a number of small bays and embayed beaches. The first five bays house four sandy beaches; Balding, Radical, Florence and Arthur Bays, while Balding, Radical and Florence Bays are also marine parks. Florence Bay (MT3) is an east facing, half kilometre deep, 200 m wide bay that contains both a sandy beach and a fringing coral reef. The entire bay is a marine park. There is vehicle access to the beach as well as a few houses and a small car park toward the southern end. The beach is 30 m wide at high tide, where it is partly shaded by casuarina trees, while low tide exposes sand flats over 50 m wide, with the reef fringing the northern half of the flats. read more
