Cassoway, Leichhardt and Christmas Creeks are three parallel creeks that have all delivered sand to the Halifax Bay shoreline, resulting in the beach building out on the order of several hundred metres. In between the abandoned beaches are mangrove-covered tidal flats. As a result of the low-lying nature of the land, there has been little development of this 6.5 km long section of the bay. There are vehicle access tracks leading to near the mouth of each of the creeks and a few shacks set back from the coast, but otherwise no major settlements or development. Cassoway Creek Beach (844) is 3.5 km long and runs from the southern side of Saltwater Creek mouth past the small mouth of Cassoway Creek to the lee of a sand spit extending north from Leichhardt Creek. The beach faces north-east and consists of a narrow high tide beach fronted by tidal flats that widen from 300 to 600 m near Leichhardt Creek. Waves are usually less than 0.5 m high. read more
