North of the Sinclaire Bay beach ridges, the coast trends north for 5 km to Cape Gloucester then turns and heads east. This shoreline surrounds a 15 km2, 400 m high series of hills that link to the mainland at Dingo Beach. Around the base of the hills are the two Sinclaire Bay beaches, then a series of 11 beaches between the bay and Dingo Beach. All are low energy, generally face west to north and are well protected by their orientation and Gloucester Island, which lies 1 km immediately north of Cape Gloucester. A vehicle track from Dingo Beach runs to Sinclaire Bay then up the coast to Cape Gloucester. Beach 973 is an 800 m long, curving, generally west facing strip of high tide sand fronted by near-continuous intertidal beachrock. It extends from the northern side of the small inlet that separates it from the Sinclaire Bay beaches, to a low sand and beachrock point. The track to Cape Gloucester runs along the back of the beach, and there is also a landing strip paralleling the beach.
