Funnel Bay occupies the northern half of the valley that is used to access Shute Harbour. The main Shute Harbour Road runs through the valley, with a 1.5 km long access road leading to Funnel Bay and its beach. The valley is also the site of a rather confined landing strip surrounded by valley sides rising to over 300 m. Funnel Bay beach (1018) is 400 m long, faces north and is backed by a low coastal plain through which Flame Tree Creek meanders, to reach the shore at the eastern end of the beach. Mangroves fringe the creek and its mouth. A gravel road runs right to the back of the beach, where there is a picnic area on the low dune. The beach consists of a low gradient, 50 m wide high tide beach fronted by extensive intertidal sand flats up to 500 m wide. Waves are usually calm.
