Pioneer Point forms the eastern boundary of Pioneer Bay, the site of Cannonvale and Airlie Beach. The point is part of an 8 km long, 200 to 300 m high, densely vegetated spur that runs from Shute Harbour to the point. The 12 km shoreline between the point and harbour is dominated by the rock base of the spur, with the few beaches restricted to small valley mouths and mostly composed of rocks, cobbles and boulders. There is no road access to any of the beaches, with a walking trail from the Shute Harbour Road leading across a low point in the spur to Swamp Bay providing the only formal land access. Pioneer Point beach (1019) is a 1 km long, north facing strip of coarse sand, cobbles and boulders running along the northern side of the spur. It is backed by densely wooded slopes, including boab trees, and is cut in two by a small rock outcrop.
